India! More Nilgai

Nilgai: Rathambore Tiger Reserve, Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, India, March 2023 — Nilgai seem to be doing just fine in all the reserves of the part of India we visited, and we saw them pretty much everywhere we went. This is a “blue-buck”, apparently a relatively young male, and a female for comparison. They seemed much bigger at the marsh reserves than they were at Rathambore in the forest, but maybe that is just a matter of perspective. Sony Rx10iv at 91, 256, and 400mm. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Pro and Apple Photos. ISO 100 @ f4 @ 1/250th and ISO 250 @ f4 @ 1/500th.

India! Nilgai

Nilgai: Chambal Sarus Crane Conservation Area, Uttar Pradesh, India, March 2023 — Sarus Cranes were not the only large wildlife to take advantage of the farmer’s fields in the Chambal Sarus Crane Conservation Area in Uttar Pradesh India. These Nilgai look like they are swimming in the see of grain…and I am sure they do much more damage to the crop than the Cranes do. 🙂 Sony Rx10iv at 600mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Pro and Apple Photos. ISO 100 @ f5 @ 1/1000th. -.3EV

India! Deer and Antelope of Keoladeo

Deer and Antelope of Keoladeo National Park, Bharatpur, India, March 2023 — We can’t leave Keoladeo without showing off the ungulates. We have here the Chital or Spotted Deer, a group of females and a single male; then two shots of female Nilgai, one shot of a male Nilgai or Blue Bull, a male Sambar Deer, another male Nilgai, a family of Sambar, and what might be another Blue Bull and his harem. All taken with the Sony Rx10iv at or near 600mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Pro and Apple Photos.

Uganda Edition: Bushbuck

Bushbuck: Lake Mburo National Park, Uganda, August 2022 — A female and a male Bushbuck along the shore of Lake Mburo from our late afternoon tour boat. Apparently they are a common site along the lake shore, as sightings are mentioned on several safari web-sites. In the park at large they have the habit, somewhat unique to Mburo, of standing watch on the tops of termite mounds and I saw one in 2019 posing on such a mound in the seeping dusk as a leopard stalked it. Sony Rx10iv at 600mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Photo and Apple Photos. ISO 320 and 640 @ f4 @ 1/500th.

Uganda Edition: Eland!

Common Eland: Lake Mburo National Park, Uganda, August 2022 — No the best photo, but our only sighting of the somewhat shy Elands of Lake Mburo National Park. The two Eland species, Common and Giant, are the largest antelope in the world. Lake Mburo has the Common, which is just slightly smaller on average than the Giant. Still, impressive animals. Sony Rx10iv at 526mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Pro and Apple Photos. ISO 100 @ f4 @ 1/500th.

Uganda Edition: Impala!

Impala: Lake Mburo National Park, Uganda, August 2022 — Lake Mburo is the only national park in Uganda to host Impala. Everywhere else the most elegant of antelope (in my humble opinion) is replaced by the closely related, slightly stockier, Uganda Kob. We were still on our way down to the Lake for the Lake cruse when we found a small herd of Impala within sight of the road. Sony Rx10iv around 520mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Photo and Apple Photos. ISO 200 and 250 @ f4 @ 1/500th.

Uganda Edition: Topi

Topi: Lake Mburo National Park, Uganda, August 2022 — The only two parks in Uganda where you are likely to see Topi are the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth and Lake Mburo. This one was beside the road as we drove through the park to get to our bout tour on the lake. Though it is a fairly large antelope, the Topi is often sighted as the fasted African antelope, at least over short distances. Sony Rx10iv at 238mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Photo and Apple Photos. ISO 200 @ f4 @ 1/500th.

Uganda Edition: Defassa Waterbuck

Defassa Waterbuck: Lake Mburo National Park, Uganda, August 2022 — Male and female Waterbuck. The male was from our early morning walking safari and the female was on the way to our lodge when we had first arrived in the Park. Magnificent animals! Sony Rx10iv at 600mm (male) and 143mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Photo and Apple Photos. Male: ISO 1250 @ f4 @ 1/500th, Female: ISO 100 @ f4 @ 1/320th.

Uganda Edition: Topi!

Topi: Ishasha Sector, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda, August 2022 — The Topi is most easily found in Uganda in the Ishasha Sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, but it can also be seen at Lake Mboro. It is reputed to be the fastest antelope over short distances. Sony Rx10iv at 236 and 447mm equivalents. (The male is at 236mm…so I was really close to him!) Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Photo and Apple Photos. ISO 125 @ f4 @ 1/500th and 1/640th.

Ugandan Kob fawn by the road

After our cruise on the Kazinga Channel in Queen Elizabeth National Park, we took a short game drive, still in the southern section. We caught this Ugandan Kob fawn at the edge of the road, crossing ahead of our vehicle. All of the antelope family are graceful, elegant creatures, and no more so than when young. Sony Rx10iv at 600mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Photo and Apple Photos. ISO 100 @ f4 @ 1/640th.
