Uganda Edition: Bushbuck

Bushbuck: Lake Mburo National Park, Uganda, August 2022 — A female and a male Bushbuck along the shore of Lake Mburo from our late afternoon tour boat. Apparently they are a common site along the lake shore, as sightings are mentioned on several safari web-sites. In the park at large they have the habit, somewhat unique to Mburo, of standing watch on the tops of termite mounds and I saw one in 2019 posing on such a mound in the seeping dusk as a leopard stalked it. Uganda Edition: Eland!

Common Eland: Lake Mburo National Park, Uganda, August 2022 — No the best photo, but our only sighting of the somewhat shy Elands of Lake Mburo National Park. The two Eland species, Common and Giant, are the largest antelope in the world. Lake Mburo has the Common, which is just slightly smaller on average than the Giant. Still, impressive animals. Sony Rx10iv at 526mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Pro and Apple Photos. ISO 100 @ f4 @ 1/500th.

Uganda Edition: Impala!

Impala: Lake Mburo National Park, Uganda, August 2022 — Lake Mburo is the only national park in Uganda to host Impala. Everywhere else the most elegant of antelope (in my humble opinion) is replaced by the closely related, slightly stockier, Uganda Kob. We were still on our way down to the Lake for the Lake cruse when we found a small herd of Impala within sight of the road. Sony Rx10iv around 520mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Photo and Apple Photos. ISO 200 and 250 @ f4 @ 1/500th.

Uganda Edition: Topi

Topi: Lake Mburo National Park, Uganda, August 2022 — The only two parks in Uganda where you are likely to see Topi are the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth and Lake Mburo. This one was beside the road as we drove through the park to get to our bout tour on the lake. Though it is a fairly large antelope, the Topi is often sighted as the fasted African antelope, at least over short distances. Sony Rx10iv at 238mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Photo and Apple Photos. ISO 200 @ f4 @ 1/500th.

Uganda Edition: Defassa Waterbuck

Defassa Waterbuck: Lake Mburo National Park, Uganda, August 2022 — Male and female Waterbuck. The male was from our early morning walking safari and the female was on the way to our lodge when we had first arrived in the Park. Magnificent animals! Sony Rx10iv at 600mm (male) and 143mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Photo and Apple Photos. Male: ISO 1250 @ f4 @ 1/500th, Female: ISO 100 @ f4 @ 1/320th.

Uganda Edition: Topi!

Topi: Ishasha Sector, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda, August 2022 — The Topi is most easily found in Uganda in the Ishasha Sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, but it can also be seen at Lake Mboro. It is reputed to be the fastest antelope over short distances. Sony Rx10iv at 236 and 447mm equivalents. (The male is at 236mm…so I was really close to him!) Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Photo and Apple Photos. ISO 125 @ f4 @ 1/500th and 1/640th.

Ugandan Kob fawn by the road

After our cruise on the Kazinga Channel in Queen Elizabeth National Park, we took a short game drive, still in the southern section. We caught this Ugandan Kob fawn at the edge of the road, crossing ahead of our vehicle. All of the antelope family are graceful, elegant creatures, and no more so than when young. Sony Rx10iv at 600mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Photo and Apple Photos. ISO 100 @ f4 @ 1/640th.

Waterbuck edition

Defassa Waterbuck: Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda, August 2022 — Waterbuck is common three of the National Parks we visited. These are in Queen Elizabeth National Park, and in good light for a change (at least on this trip…generally we saw them close when the sun was setting or rising…just the way it was). Sony Rx10iv at 600mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Photo and Apple Photos. ISO 100 and 125 @ f4 @ 1/500th.

Antelope edition: Oribi fawn

Oribi: Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda, August 2022 — Still on our way back from the tour boat on the Nile, we came to this mother and fawn Oribi beside the road into the lodge. I selectively focused on the fawn and had to sharpen the female more than I like, but it is still a good photo. Focus stacking would have been nice…but I checked my unprocessed images and in the few seconds I had, I did not get one with the female in selective focus. 🙁 Sony Rx10iv at 221mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Photo and Apple Photos. ISO 1000 @ f4 @ 1/500th.

Antelope edition: Oribi

Oribi are small, graceful antelope, and are very common in the tall grass savannah of Murchison Falls National Park…apparently less common elsewhere in Uganda. The females and young can be seen at the edges of grazing herds of Uganda Kob, or off by themselves. The males seem to be more secretive, at least in my experience. I have only seen males twice in Uganda. Sony Rx10iv at 600mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Photo and Apple Photos. ISO 250 and 200 @ f4 @ 1/500th.
