Lion’s Mane Mushroom: Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve at Laudholm Farms, Wells, Maine, USA, October 2025 — It has been a slow year for mushrooms because of our drought, but I fond this Lion’s Mane breaking through the bark of a young maple tree just below eye-level. Since Lion’s Mane can only infect existing wounds, this must be where a branch was removed from the tree to make room for the boardwalk. It was a difficult subject to photograph as it was so long and narrow, following the crack in the tree.
