India! Tiger!

Tiger: Rathambore National Park/Tiger Reserve, Rajasthan, India, March 2023 — It is time to finish up my photos from our March 2023 trip to India. We worked hard for these photos of a young female Tiger at Rathambore…which we only found on our very last safari into the park. We spent most of an afternoon with her, as she rested in the shade across a pond from us. She is only a few years old, and had her first cubs with her, hidden somewhere in the deeper brush. Truly a privilege to spend time with her…and, for many of us, birders that we were, the highlight of our trip. The next morning early, we were on the train back to Delhi and one last night at a hotel and then the airport. Sony Rx10iv at 600mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Pro and Apple Photos. Assembled in FrameMagic. ISO 800 @ f4 @ 1/500th.

India! Painted Spurfowl

Painted Spurfowl: Rathambore National Park/Tiger Reserve, Rajasthan, India, March 2023 — Getting near the end of our trip to India in March, or at least to the end of the photos 🙂 This is a Painted Spurfowl from Rathambore. Again, along the stream below the temple. Such a handsome bird! Sony Rx10iv at 595mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Pro and Apple Photos. ISO 500 @ f4 @ 1/500th.

India! Common and Pied Kingfishers

Common and Pied Kingfishers: a reservoir near Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, India, March 2023 — On a small dam in an irrigation system next to the reservoir, both Common and Pied Kingfishers were hunting. India! Wire-tailed Swallow

Wire-tailed Swallow: Near Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, India, March 2023 — On the morning of our last day at Rathambore we drove out to one of the dams around Sawai Madhopur for some shore birding. The Wire-tailed Swallow was by far the most common Swallow we saw in the area of India we visited. Sony Rx10iv at 600mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom Birds and Wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Pro and Apple Photos. ISO 100 @ f5 and f4 @ 1/1000th and 1/800th.

India! Painted Sandgrouse

Painted Sandgrouse: near Rathambore, Rajasthan, India, March 2023 — On our way back from the Chambal River boat tour we stopped in a field, after sunset, for a few more birds in the dusky light…and chanced on this Painted Sandgrouse…evidently a rare sighting and a rarer photo (not the best photos but is was getting dark and the bird only showed for a few seconds, quite a distance away, before flying off into deeper grasses). Our local guide was certainly impressed that I got any kind of shot at all. (Though rare they are still gamebirds in India and very wary of humans.) Sony Rx10iv at 600mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Pro and Apple Photos. ISO 1600 @ f4 @ 1/500th.

India! Chambal Storks

Asian Openbill, Wooly-necked, and Painted Storks: Chambal River near Rathambore, Rajasthan, India, March 2023 — Still playing catch up from my March 2023 trip to the area just south of Delhi in India. These are three more birds, all storks, that we saw from the boat on the Chambal River near Rathambore National Park. Sony Rx10iv at 600mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Pro and Apple Photos. ISO 100 @ f4 and f4.5 @ 1/1000th.

India! Great Stone Curlew

Great Stone Curlew (Great Thick-knee): Chambal River near Rathambore, Rajasthan, India, March 2023 — Another new bird from our short boat excursion on the Chambal River near Rathambore. Called either the Great Stone Curlew or the Great Thick-knee, it is a large and interesting shore bird through India and South-east Asia. Sony Rx10iv at 600mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Pro and Apple Photos. ISO 250 @ f4 @ 1/500th. Plus .3EV.

India! Mugger Crocodile

Mugger Crocodile: Chambal River near Rathambore, Rajasthan, India, March 2023 — Besides the Gharials the Chambal is home to another crocodile…the Mugger. It lacks the long thin snout of the Gharials and is, on average, slightly smaller…though these two are certainly big enough to inspire some respect. Sony Rx10iv at 534 and 600mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Pro and Apple Photos. ISO 160 and 200 @ f4 @ 1/500th.

India! Little Egret and Indian Cormorant

Little Egret, Indian Cormorant: Chambal River near Rathambore, Rajasthan, India, March 2023 — Of course I was taking the photo of the Little Egret, and did not see the Cormorant until today, when I was getting ready to post the photo. 🙂 Another shot from our second and much more productive river tour on the Chambal. Sony Rx10iv at 600mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixomator Pro and Apple Photos. ISO 100 @ f4 @ 1/800th.
