India! Tiger!

Tiger: Rathambore National Park/Tiger Reserve, Rajasthan, India, March 2023 — It is time to finish up my photos from our March 2023 trip to India. We worked hard for these photos of a young female Tiger at Rathambore…which we only found on our very last safari into the park. We spent most of an afternoon with her, as she rested in the shade across a pond from us. She is only a few years old, and had her first cubs with her, hidden somewhere in the deeper brush. Truly a privilege to spend time with her…and, for many of us, birders that we were, the highlight of our trip. The next morning early, we were on the train back to Delhi and one last night at a hotel and then the airport. Sony Rx10iv at 600mm equivalent. India! Painted Spurfowl

Painted Spurfowl: Rathambore National Park/Tiger Reserve, Rajasthan, India, March 2023 — Getting near the end of our trip to India in March, or at least to the end of the photos 🙂 This is a Painted Spurfowl from Rathambore. Again, along the stream below the temple. Such a handsome bird! Sony Rx10iv at 595mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Pro and Apple Photos. ISO 500 @ f4 @ 1/500th.

India! — Langur Monkeys

Grey Langur Monkeys: Rathambore National Park / Tiger Reserve, Rajasthan, India, March 2023 — Probably two females and the baby, along side the road near a stream at the edge of Rathambore National Park, just below the Temple. Sony Rx10iv at 361mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Pro and Apple Photos. ISO 800 @ f4 @ 1/500th.

India! Painted Sandgrouse

Painted Sandgrouse: near Rathambore, Rajasthan, India, March 2023 — On our way back from the Chambal River boat tour we stopped in a field, after sunset, for a few more birds in the dusky light…and chanced on this Painted Sandgrouse…evidently a rare sighting and a rarer photo (not the best photos but is was getting dark and the bird only showed for a few seconds, quite a distance away, before flying off into deeper grasses). Our local guide was certainly impressed that I got any kind of shot at all. (Though rare they are still gamebirds in India and very wary of humans.) Sony Rx10iv at 600mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Pro and Apple Photos. ISO 1600 @ f4 @ 1/500th.

India! Grey Francolin

Grey Francolin: Rathambore Tiger Reserve, Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, India, March 2023 — Of course we saw lots of birds at Rathambore as well. Though the Grey Francolin is the most common of the quail-like birds in India, these were our first for the trip. Feeding where two tracks crossed, very near the roads. Sony Rx10iv at 600mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Pro and Apple Photos. ISO 1250 @ f4 @ 1/500th.

India! Indian Scopes Owl

Indian Scopes Owl: Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, India, March 2023 — This Indian Scopes Owl was roosting, literally, right outside my room at our hotel in Sawai Madhopur while we were visiting Rathambore National Park. It was an old British Colonial hotel will expensive grounds and well shaded verandas all around. And owls! I photographed it from the ground one day and, here, from the second floor veranda at close range. Sony Rx10iv at 600mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Pro and Apple Photos. ISO 4000 @ f4 @ 1/500th. +.7EV.

India! Sambar Deer

Sambar Deer: Rathambore Tiger Reserve, Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, India, March 2023 — Again, Rathambore National Park is home to a wide variety of wildlife besides the tigers. These are the large forest deer of India and southeast Asia…the Sambar. We came on this small group late in the afternoon at the end of our third unsuccessful tiger drive. They almost made up for it 🙂 Sony Rx10iv at 469 and 390mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Pro and Apple Photos. ISO 100 @ f4 @ 1/640th to 1/800th.

India! More Nilgai

Nilgai: Rathambore Tiger Reserve, Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, India, March 2023 — Nilgai seem to be doing just fine in all the reserves of the part of India we visited, and we saw them pretty much everywhere we went. This is a “blue-buck”, apparently a relatively young male, and a female for comparison. They seemed much bigger at the marsh reserves than they were at Rathambore in the forest, but maybe that is just a matter of perspective. Sony Rx10iv at 91, 256, and 400mm. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Pro and Apple Photos. ISO 100 @ f4 @ 1/250th and ISO 250 @ f4 @ 1/500th.

India! Indian Nightjar

Indian Nightjar?: Rathambore Tiger Reserve, Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, India, March 2023 — I think this is an Indian Nightjar…though we had a discussion as to whether it might be Jungle. The short wings and tail I think make it Indian??? Anyone who knows better, please advise 🙂 Sony Rx10iv at 600mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Pro and Apple Photos. ISO 100 @ f4 @ 1/500th. +1.7EV for backlight.

India! More Lagur Monkey business

Langur Monkey, Rathambore Tiger Reserve, Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, India, March 2023 — Along the stream below the temple within Rathambore National Park and the Tiger Reserve, there was a large troop of Grey Langur monkeys, going about their business. This large female was after a drink from the stream. Sony Rx10iv at 266 and 467mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Pro and Apple Photos and assembled in FrameMagic. ISO 320, 250, and 100 @ f4 @ 1/500th.
