India! Tiger!

Tiger: Rathambore National Park/Tiger Reserve, Rajasthan, India, March 2023 — It is time to finish up my photos from our March 2023 trip to India. We worked hard for these photos of a young female Tiger at Rathambore…which we only found on our very last safari into the park. We spent most of an afternoon with her, as she rested in the shade across a pond from us. She is only a few years old, and had her first cubs with her, hidden somewhere in the deeper brush. Truly a privilege to spend time with her…and, for many of us, birders that we were, the highlight of our trip. The next morning early, we were on the train back to Delhi and one last night at a hotel and then the airport. Sony Rx10iv at 600mm equivalent. Tiger close-up

Tiger: Rathambore Tiger Reserve, Rathambore National Park, Sawai Madhopur, India, March 2023 — A crop-in from a 600mm image taken from across a pond in Zone 10, for a portrait of Tiger. This is T 99, Aiswarya, a young 5 year old female who just had her first two cubs this year. The cubs were safely hidden in the brush and not to be seen. We found her right after entering the Zone on our afternoon drive and spent most of the afternoon watching her rest and move gently in the shade. Sony Rx10iv at 600mm equivalent. A Tiger is still a cat…

Tiger: Rathambore Tiger Reserve, Rathambore National Park, Sawai Madhopur, India, March 2023 — I don’t know why it always surprises me but it always does when big cats behave just like house cats. Maybe it is really more amazing that house cats still behave so much like big cats. The “rub my tummy” move seems universal, though I am pretty sure no one, at lest no human, has ever rubbed the tummy of a Tiger when the tummy was on offer. Still. Cats will be cats. Tiger!

Tiger: Rathambore National Tiger Reserve, Sawai Madhopur, India, March 2023 — After three previous attempts our last Tiger drive this afternoon rewarded us with this young female resting in the shade above a pond. We watched her most of the afternoon as she did resting cat maneuvers. Her eyes were closed, cat like, most of the time, but occasionally she looked out across the pond at her admiring audience. Quite an experience! Sony Rx10iv at 600mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Photo and Apple Photos. ISO 1000 @ f4 @ 1/500th. Plus .3EV.
