Colorado! Bunnies

Wild Rabbits: Centennial, Colorado — The only other wildlife we have seen on our walks around Centennial with our granddaughters are the wild Rabbits that seen to enjoy the lawns of the housing developments and the small parks. I will not say they are everywhere, but there are a surprising number of them, and, as you might imagine with them living in suburbia, they are somewhat tame. This one sat for me for close-ups…though some of that might have been the “freeze” response. (“If I do not move he can’t see me!”…which is a survival technique against airborne and other sight predators, but does not work well against photographers…or other “shooters” for that matter. Fortunately for the rabbits, I am pretty sure shotguns are banned by the local HOAs, if not by the city itself. 🙂 Anyway. The bunnies are a big hit with the granddaughters and look remarkably healthy. OM Systems OM-1 with 100-400mm zoom at 372mm and 800mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom bird modifications. (No need to switch to animal mode for animals of this size, I am finding.) Processed in Pixelmator Pro. ISO 1250 and 1600 @ f6.3 @ 1/640th.

India! Gharial

Gharial: Chambal River, Rajasthan, India, March 2023 — When I looked up this strange member of the crocodile family this morning, it turns out that it is among the rarest of its kind, residing in only a few rivers in India and Nepal. It is endangered throughout its range. I assume that like most crocodiles, the open mouth posture is for heat regulation. It uses that long snout with all those teeth to hunt fish in the deep pools of the rivers. Sony Rx10iv at 135-600mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Pro and Apple Photos, and assembled in FrameMagic. ISO 100 and 125 @ f4 @ 1/500th and 1/640th.

India! Sambar Deer

Sambar Deer: Rathambore Tiger Reserve, Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, India, March 2023 — Again, Rathambore National Park is home to a wide variety of wildlife besides the tigers. These are the large forest deer of India and southeast Asia…the Sambar. We came on this small group late in the afternoon at the end of our third unsuccessful tiger drive. They almost made up for it 🙂 Sony Rx10iv at 469 and 390mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Pro and Apple Photos. ISO 100 @ f4 @ 1/640th to 1/800th.

India! More Nilgai

Nilgai: Rathambore Tiger Reserve, Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, India, March 2023 — Nilgai seem to be doing just fine in all the reserves of the part of India we visited, and we saw them pretty much everywhere we went. This is a “blue-buck”, apparently a relatively young male, and a female for comparison. They seemed much bigger at the marsh reserves than they were at Rathambore in the forest, but maybe that is just a matter of perspective. Sony Rx10iv at 91, 256, and 400mm. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Pro and Apple Photos. ISO 100 @ f4 @ 1/250th and ISO 250 @ f4 @ 1/500th.

India! More Lagur Monkey business

Langur Monkey, Rathambore Tiger Reserve, Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, India, March 2023 — Along the stream below the temple within Rathambore National Park and the Tiger Reserve, there was a large troop of Grey Langur monkeys, going about their business. This large female was after a drink from the stream. Sony Rx10iv at 266 and 467mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Pro and Apple Photos and assembled in FrameMagic. ISO 320, 250, and 100 @ f4 @ 1/500th.

India!

Grey Langur and Spotted Deer: Rathambore Tiger Reserve, Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, India, March 2023 — The Grey Langurs were common along the stream by the road that goes by the temple inside Rathambore. along with birds and other wildlife, like this Spotted Deer that photobombed my monkey shot. Actually I could not resist the contrast when the deer walked behind the monkey. 🙂 Sony Rx10iv at 320mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Pro and Apple Photos. ISO 160 @ f4 @ 1/500th.

Maine! Snapper

Snapping Turtle: Roger’s Pond, Kennebunk, Maine, USA — I posted a Day Poem about this encounter yesterday. Always happy to see a Snapper…from a distance. This is maybe only my 4th sighting as an adult, if I can claim to be one yet at 75. A big one! The underwater shot gives a better impression of just how big. OM Systems OM-1 with 100-400mm zoom at 800 equivalent for the close-ups, 472 for the whole turtle and 200mm for the underwater shot. Program mode with my evolving bird modifications (bird worked better on the turtle than animal…I tried them both.) Processed in Pixelmator Pro. ISO 200 for the land shots, ISO 400 underwater @ f6.3 (f5 underwater) @ 1/640th.

India! Nilgai

Nilgai: Chambal Sarus Crane Conservation Area, Uttar Pradesh, India, March 2023 — Sarus Cranes were not the only large wildlife to take advantage of the farmer’s fields in the Chambal Sarus Crane Conservation Area in Uttar Pradesh India. These Nilgai look like they are swimming in the see of grain…and I am sure they do much more damage to the crop than the Cranes do. 🙂 Sony Rx10iv at 600mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Pro and Apple Photos. ISO 100 @ f5 @ 1/1000th. -.3EV

Wildlife of Keoladeo National Park: Golden Jackal

Finishing up, I think, the wildlife posts from Keoladeo National Park, in Bharatpur India, this is a Indian Golden Jackal, a handsome wild canine common throughout Asia and into Europe. It is most closely reflected to the wolf and coyote, and, in fact will cross breed with Asian Wolves and domestic dogs. It is about the same size as the North American Coyote, and favors river bottoms and agricultural areas, as opposed to foothills and mountains. Sony Rx10iv at 238mm equivalent. (It was right beside the road.) Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixomator Pro and Apple Photos. ISO 800 @ f4 @ 1/500th.

India! Deer and Antelope of Keoladeo

Deer and Antelope of Keoladeo National Park, Bharatpur, India, March 2023 — We can’t leave Keoladeo without showing off the ungulates. We have here the Chital or Spotted Deer, a group of females and a single male; then two shots of female Nilgai, one shot of a male Nilgai or Blue Bull, a male Sambar Deer, another male Nilgai, a family of Sambar, and what might be another Blue Bull and his harem. All taken with the Sony Rx10iv at or near 600mm equivalent. Program mode with my custom birds and wildlife modifications. Processed in Pixelmator Pro and Apple Photos.
