Abstracts of Autumn #1
I went out on my eBike yesterday, specifically to look for foliage photos…not landscape shots, but photos featuring the patterns, colors, and textures of the season. Abstracts. I will post a few over the next few days. Fall is passing fast this year, with more than half the leaves off the trees already, and with still a week to go before traditional peak foliage. New England Aster
New England Aster, Laudholm Farms, Wells, Maine — Sometimes things just work out…right place, right time, and ready…and you bring back a satisfying image from one of your photoprowls. This is pretty simple, just the single flower head in Maine September afternoon light, against a dark background…but the effect, at least to my eye, is memorable. Sony Rx10iv at 513mm equivalent. Wild forest chickadee
Black-capped Chickadee, Laudholm Farms, Wells, Maine, USA — Okay so it is really only a standard Black-capped Chickadee, but it is not one of the tame chickadees that come to our feeder a hundred times a day. On the other hand, it paid no more attention to me there taking it’s photo out in the middle of the woods at Laudholm Farms than one of our yard birds would have, so maybe “wild” is a word that just can not be applied to any chickadee. 🙂 Sony Rx10iv at 600mm equivalent. Big Tom
Wild Turkey, Laudholm Farms, Wells, Maine, USA — Yesterday it was completely overcast all day, so I did not take my “real camera” with me when I went out for a purely exercise bike ride…and, of course, I saw over 40 Wild Turkeys in 4 different flocks…two flocks of Hens and Janes and chicks, and two flocks of Toms and Jakes. This is one of two mature Toms strutting their stuff along the road in to the Laudholm Farms (Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve). Taken with my “back-up travel camera”, a Panasonic Lumix ZS-60, at about 400mm equivalent. Program mode: ISO 125 @ f6 @ 1/100th. -.3 EV. Processed in Polarr and Apple Photos.
Coy
I enjoy the symmetry and the flow of the pattern on this resting chipmunk’s back. And the rich browns in contrast to the blue green and grey wood. And I suppose the contrast in textures, wood and fur. And that’s it. That is all there is to this photo. 🙂 Sony Rx10iv at 600mm equivalent. Laudholm Chipper
The chipmunks are everywhere abundant this year. We see them every day around the yard. They have made repeated attempts to undermine our rose bush. They like to play hide and seek among the marigolds in the planters on the back deck. Carol rescued one from drowning in a water bucket yesterday, and I suspect, from the nighttime noises in the walls, that they have gotten into the house. This one was on the boardwalk at Laudholm Farms, and let me walk right up to it. The shot is cropped only on the long axis, full frame otherwise…so I as close indeed. I have to admit, I have a lot more time for chipmunks than for squirrels, which this year, is a good thing. Sony Rx10iv at 600mm equivalent.
