Great Blue Heron: Kennebunk, Maine, October 2025 — This Great Blue Heron was hunting the marsh along the road as I passed on my Etrike, so, of course, I had to stop and watch him and take some photos. The thing about most birds (with the exception of raptors and vultures that I can think of offhand) is that they don’t so much eat a meal as snack all day, and this heron was busy doing that. It had just caught some kind of small crustacean, crab like thing, and I watched it swallow it whole. And then it was immediately active looking for the next snack. Sony a6700.
