Three Primate Day

White-faced Capuchin, Spider, and Howler Monkey

White-faced Capuchin, Spider, and Howler Monkey

While we were at the Lodge at Pico Bonito, a group of three Primate researchers were there also, scouting the location for future research, so of course I had to brag on our three primate day. We saw the Howler and White-faced Capuchin monkeys at Cuero y Salada Wildlife Refuge from the boat, along two different channels. Not great looks at either one, as they were hanging well back in the trees. The Howler was alone, but there was a whole troop of Capuchins and they were very aware of our presence. They would come closer in the trees, though never very close, and peek out at us. The Spider Monkey was seen way across the valley, in the fading light late afternoon, from the tower at the Lodge. There was at least one male and and a female with a baby, but the researchers told us that there were several troops above the Lodge, each with 6 or more monkeys.

There are easier places to see and photograph primates than Honduras and the Lodge at Pico Bonito, so we were pretty excited by our three primate day!
