We will drop back to my visit to Gatorland in Orlando Florida for this close up of a Great Egret in breeding plumage (note the green around the eye). He appears to be fishing…but more likely he is about to pick up one of the hot dog chunks the tourists throw to the Alligators. Can you say easy living?

I like the feeling of arrested action here that the parted beak gives, and I like the detail of the foot. The image has been cropped for composition, to observe the rule of thirds and to emphasize the strong diagonal of the branch leading to the center of attention at the eye.
