Shells

When I went out for my emergency photo-prowl yesterday afternoon, I was looking at the sky. Emergency because it was way past time to take some photos! I went yesterday in hopes of catching at least a bit more light, relying in the weather report, than was likely all day today. As it happens, the light was not great, and they have now changed the weather report. We may have better light, and better skies, today. And, of course, here in Maine, in winter, it is all about light.

As you see from the featured image, along the way I stopped looking at the sky long enough to notice the thick band of sea wrack that the storms of the past month have piled up on Gooch’s Point across from the Narragansett Inn. And among the wrack, the wealth of shells. I framed a few found compositions, and processed them for HDR effect in Snapseed when I got home. The HDR processing is not obvious here, but it brings out all the subtle colors and emphasizes the finer textures of the shells and stones…brings out all the light had to offer…almost an inner light…and makes the image just that much more compelling. Or that is what I think.

Sony NEX 3NL with 16-50mm zoom. 75mm equivalent field of view. ISO 200 @ 1/100th @ f9. Processed, as above, in Snapseed on the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014.
