Maine! Bluebird in the November Maple

Eastern Bluebird: York County, Maine, USA, November 2024 — Just another backyard bluebird. Sony a6700 with E70-350G at 525mm equivalent. Program mode with my bird and wildlife modifications. Processed in Photomator.

Maine! November Bluebirds

Eastern Bluebird: York County, Maine, USA, November 2024 — We have had Bluebirds in our yard year around for 5 years…adding a touch of welcome color in the months were there are no flowers and few bright birds. Maine! Pine Warbler on deck

Pine Warbler: York County, Maine, USA, November 2024 — We always have a few Pine Warblers come through the yard, early in the spring and late in the fall. We had a female or immature a few days ago, and this nice fall male was around off and on all day yesterday. I like Pine Warblers…in part at least because they are one of the few warblers we actually see in the yard. 🙂 Sony a6700 with E70-350G at 525mm equivalent. Maine! Chickadees never fail me

Black-capped Chickadee: York County, Maine, USA, November 2024 — If I have the urge to photograph something…and that seems to happen to me fairly frequently :)…I know that if I go sit on my little folding camp stool on the back deck for a few moments the Chickadees, at the very least, will come, even here in the bird doldrums of deep November in Maine. They have no fear. This one sat there on the rail not 6 feet from me in my corner of the deck for maybe 30 seconds. Time enough. Sony a6700 with E70-350G at 525mm equivalent. Maine! Bluebird on a November afternoon

Eastern Bluebird: York County, Maine, USA — Our bluebirds are still coming throughout the day for mealworms, perhaps as active at the feeder here in the cold days of November as at any other time of year. We have four still, the adults and two of this year’s broods. This is the adult male posed in the trees above the deck in the almost horizontal light of the afternoon in Southern Maine. Maine! Red-bellied

Red-bellied Woodpecker: York County Maine, USA, September 2024 — We have watched this immature Red-bellied Woodpecker “color up” over the past few months. When it first appeared at the feeders it was pale on pale, with just alight grey patch where the red is now coming in. Hard to tell it from the adult now…but the adult rarely comes to the feeders and the immature has been regular. Maine! Chickadee on the rail

Black-capped Chickadee: York County Maine, USA, September 2024 — Just a simple portrait of a common backyard bird. Sony a6700 with the Tamron 50-400 Di iii zoom at 600mm equivalent. Program mode with my bird and wildlife modifications. Processed in Photomator.

Maine! Titmouse

Tufted Titmouse: York County, Maine, USA, August 2024 — I never realized just how close we are to the northern edge of the Tufted Titmouse range. They are so common in our backyard and in the forests around us. This one is “tuft challenged” or at least worn from the nesting season. Actually it is kind of disheveled looking overall. Maine! Scruffy Bluebird

Eastern Bluebird: York County, Maine, USA, August 2024 — I think this is our resident female Bluebird, after a long nesting season. Her latest fledglings are out and about these past few weeks, and that was at least her second nest. She has always had a plumage challenge…never matched the elegance of her mate…but they have successfully fledged at least 4 chicks each summer for the past 4 or 5 years. 🙂 Sony a6700 with the Tamron 50-400 Di iii VC VXD zoom at 600mm equivalent. Maine! Almost Rose-breasted

Rose-breasted Grosbeak: York County Maine, USA, August 2024 — We only get Rose-breasted Grosbeak in our yard about twice a year. For a few days in the spring on their way north, and maybe once in the fall on their way south. This one appears to be a somewhat ratty looking young male just coming into its adult plumage. It will be nice and bright by the time it comes back through in the spring, if we catch it as it passes. I would have missed this one if a hummingbird had not been attempting to come in the open deck door wile it happened to be on the feeder. Or maybe the hummer was altering me. I could think that. 🙂 Sony a6700 with the Tamron 50-400 Di iii VC VXD zoom at 600mm equivalent. Program mode with my bird and wildlife modifications. Processed in Photomator.
