Red Squirrel, Alewive Woods Preserve, Kennebunk Land Trust. Kennebunk ME<\/p><\/div>\n

I told the story of this Red Squirrel, which I encountered on my hike into Alewive Pond on Thursday, in today’s Year Poem (which I will append here for your viewing pleasure :).<\/p>\n

The photo is with the Nikon P900 at 1100mm equivalent field of view. 1\/60th @ ISO 800 @ f5.6. Processed in Lightroom.<\/p>\n

And the poem.<\/p>\n

The red squirrel paralleled me
\n100 years along the trail,
\nalways three threes ahead,
\nbut with one eye solid on me.<\/p>\n

Eventually he found a perch
\non a branch, oh, twice my height,
\njust where the trail turns,
\nto sit safe and sass me as only
\na Red Squirrel can sass…tail
\narched high, little paws, tiny
\nclaws clenched, every ounce
\nof his ten, behind the eye
\nthat glared, that dared me
\nto do my worst!<\/p>\n

Little did he know I had
\nmy camera ready to
\nrecord his heroic posturing,
\nor that his antics would
\nbe exposed on the internet
\nfor all the world to see.<\/p>\n

So there, Mr. Red Squirrel,
\nwe humans can sass too.<\/p>\n
