Turkey, the Yard, Kennebunk Maine<\/p><\/div>\n

Carol came running
\nearly to the bedroom,
\n“turkeys in the yard,”
\nand I went running
\nbarefoot and still wet
\nfrom the shower, camera
\nin hand, out the front door.<\/p>\n

Indeed, four big birds
\nin full spring finery…
\nfeathers aglisten in the
\nmorning sun with
\ncolors rarely seen,
\n(barely imagined).<\/p>\n

They strutted mindlessly,
\nas only turkeys strut,
\n(I know they call it
\na trot but it’s not…
\nsomething between
\na strut and a stroll)
\nup the middle of the
\nroad to the neighbor’s
\nyard where they circled
\nback just in time
\nto be a Turkey heart
\nattack for the lady
\nin the SUV taking the
\ncorner on Brown
\nStreet a tad too fast.<\/p>\n

They scuttled (again
\na better word than trot)
\nthrough another yard
\ninto the relative safety
\nof a patch of forest
\nand where gone.<\/p>\n

Ah to be as mindless
\nand a carefree as a<\/u>
\nTurkey in the spring.<\/p>\n

(Well, no, maybe
\nnot that mindless.)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
