Due to the mild winter across much of North America the Red Admirals migrated north faster and further than normal, and in greater numbers. The individuals we are seeing in Maine are pretty worn, and travel weary. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/weiw.lightshedder.com\/MaineHome\/The-Yard-Kennebunk-ME\/i-bt35KbX\/0\/L\/IMG3584-L.jpg?resize=700%2C525\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The first two shots are from my yard this week. The next shot is from Cape May New Jersey, also a very worn butterfly.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/weiw.lightshedder.com\/Landscape-Wildlife\/NJ-Spring-2012\/i-nnZPRWP\/0\/XL\/IMG2651-XL.jpg?resize=700%2C417\" width=\"700\" height=\"417\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then we have a Red Admiral from Magee Marsh in Ohio, also a migrant (Like the Painted Lady, Red Admirals have to recolonize much of North America each year), but looking much fresher! However, according to the wiki on the species, this may be a butterfly that is <em>fresh<\/em> out of hibernation, as they are known for deeper colors in the spring. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/weiw.lightshedder.com\/Landscape-Wildlife\/Biggest-Week-in-American\/i-j6Gt6d2\/0\/L\/IMG1377-L.jpg?resize=700%2C525\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Canon SX40HS.
