Kennebunk ME"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/weiw.lightshedder.com\/MaineHome\/Around-Home-2012\/i-Bxxx5cj\/0\/L\/IMG8094-L.jpg?resize=700%2C525\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Though I am in Ukiah California as I write this, half way between San Francisco and Arcata, where I am headed for the Godwitt Days birding festival, I will drop back to last Saturday\u2019s photo-prowl for a visit with our local wildlife. There is a little shallow pond that is formed where the rail-road tracks cross a marsh about a mile from our house, It is a good spot for migrant birds in spring. I often catch warblers there that I see no where else around Kennebunk. As it happens, Saturday was too early for any warbler action (though I did see two snipe) but I was surprised to find a pair of Muskrats in the pond. Visible Muskrats that is. I have always assumed they must live there as I see other signs, though no big nest. I suspect the pond has so much vegetation that the Muskrats don\u2019t have to store much for the winter, or that their \u201clodge\u201d is at the back of the pond where I can\u2019t see it through the small trees and brush. <\/p>\n<p>Seeing them right out in open water was a real treat!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/weiw.lightshedder.com\/MaineHome\/Around-Home-2012\/i-B98dXML\/0\/L\/IMG8083-L.jpg?resize=700%2C429\" width=\"700\" height=\"429\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/weiw.lightshedder.com\/MaineHome\/Around-Home-2012\/i-hbfKtmV\/0\/L\/IMG8084-L.jpg?resize=700%2C525\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/weiw.lightshedder.com\/MaineHome\/Around-Home-2012\/i-9ZRWwM2\/0\/L\/IMG8079-L.jpg?resize=700%2C525\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>My daughter said they were cute\u2026until I showed her a picture on-line that showed the tail. \ud83d\ude42 The tail is kind of creepy\u2026but a great appendage for a semi-aquatic rat!<\/p>\n<p>Canon SX40HS.
