The river runs free of ice<\/p>\n\n\n\n

for the first time in months<\/p>\n\n\n\n

while the marsh behind,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

above the stream inlet,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

is still clogged<\/p>\n\n\n\n

with the wreckage\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

blocks three, four feet thick<\/p>\n\n\n\n

in places, piled haphazardly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can feel the store of cold<\/p>\n\n\n\n

still in the water and the ice,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

making a liar of the thermometer,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

and reminding us that winter<\/p>\n\n\n\n

is not done with us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Still it is good to see<\/p>\n\n\n\n

the river running free:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

a promise of the spring<\/p>\n\n\n\n

and warmer days to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
