Eastern Bluebird: Kennebunk, Maine, USA, November 2025 \u2014 The gorget on a hummingbird is obvious. The feathers of chin and neck \u201chang down\u201d over the breast like a bib\u2026we see it clearly because it \u201clights up\u201d when the angle is just right, and because the bird can \u201cflash\u201d it by changing the angle of the bib feathers. But this shot of the Eastern Bluebird shows the same \u201cbib\u201d structure in the feathers of the throat. Since they are not iridescent it is not so obvious, and I am not certain the Bluebird has such fine control over their alignment\u2026but here the passing wind is doing the job of articulating the bib to make it obvious.
