These birds were wee and far! Way out across the marsh (420 feet, 140 yards, according to Google Maps) and the lens was at its maximum of 450mm equivalent. The image is cropped to maybe 1/4 of the frame, so that would give me, if I am doing math right, an effective focal length of 1800mm and a resolution of right around 6mp. I am just a bit amazed at the results. 🙂 Would a 600mm f4 Sony lens have given me better results? Without doubt. Would the 200-600 Sony zoom? That I would have to see to believe. 🙂 I could not afford the 600mm fixed, and I would not be carrying either big Sony lens far from the car…so I am, all things considered, content. Once more, the best lens and camera you can own, is the lens and camera you have with you when you see the photo. 🙂 Program mode with my birds and wildlife modifications.
